Gun Blogger Rendezvous III (a.k.a. GBR III)

The GBR III ran from October 9th thru the 12th of 2008. Hi-Cap Gun Works was proud to take part in what the gun blogger world might see as a union of like minded patriotic people who come together and share firearm knowledge, aptitude, and know how. The GBR has a very special mission...and that's to help raise money for Project Valour-IT.

Hi-Cap Gun Works was able to contribute to the GBR by handling some of the logistical shipping issues involed with getting some very nice guns to the GBR and then back again to some eager owners. One particular handgun was a Para PXT LDA Limited Single Stack Pistol. This gun was donated by Para USA to be raffled off at the GBR in support of Project Valour-IT. Take a look at this!

This Para felt really really good my hands...but once I shot it! WOW! I must admit, the thought crossed my mind that it would get "lost" in shipment to the raffle winner. It's a tough gun to let go and GBR was very grateful to receive such a generous donation. Congrats! to the winner of this Para. Yes I do know his name...but Hi-Cap is keeping it secret because someone might be inclined to break into the winners home and steal it. Providing he doesn't blast you with a precision made hi-quality limited edition .45.

I won't spend much more time writing about the GBR. The bloggers that attended the GBR have already posted some great material and images. Here is a list of just a few of these bloggers:

Hi-Cap Gunworks would like to give a special thanks to Mr. Completely for his hard work in orchestrating this event. Also, a big thanks to Ashley Varner of the NRA and Larry Weeks of Brownells. And to the sponsors and every gun blogger that attended...it was an honor and a privilege. You are a great bunch of people and we were proud to be invited to share this event with you. Thank you.

Hi-Cap doesn't dabble much in photography...but I thought you bloggers might enjoy a few pictures I took at the shoot.

Who's Biased?

I’m going to start this post, by first saying that all of Hi-Cap's blogs are going to be extremely biased. Yes Biased.

The reason for this is simple. All gun blogs are biased. They are biased because they have to be.

No it isn’t because the bloggers themselves are biased [though this is known to happen in any blogging sphere. It is not because we are pandering to a particular industry, [yet]. It is not because we are egoistical, [though certainly we are]. It is because of the guns themselves.

Yes I do mean any gun. Guns unlike anything else on the planet that is not alive have personalities. Those personalities manifest themselves in the owners of those guns slightly warping the opinion of the owner.

Yes even the most un-biased gun owner [if such a thing exists] is constantly under assault by the personality of their guns. Yes some guns even assault the very psyche of their owner.

This is not to say strong guys like strong guns, or sleek women like sleek guns, oh no, it goes so much deeper than that.

Your opinion on your gun reflects how you feel in your very soul. It is a self expression that goes deeper than any gun fanatic cares to admit.

The owners themselves may find qualities they like in guns they don’t have themselves. Some owners may look like something out of the night of the living dead and own only guns that are pimpy and flashy.

Some owners may be as hot as Sarah Palin in a thong skinning a timber wolf in zero degree weather, and pick only guns that are big mean and ugly.

Then again some owners pick guns exclusively to their personalities. Big mean guy, big mean gun. Nice gentle soul, Gentle 22.

The problem again is that all of us are biased to a particular group of guns. Be they bolt action, Semi Auto, DAO, it just doesn’t matter. We are particular and biased and in some cases downright mean about it.

How dare a gun shop try to sell you a life long ak47 man a junky little bolt action 17hmr. Why you have half a mind to show him the difference the old fashion way. A 7.62x39 to the freakin face.

On the other hand how dare he try to sell you, who have no use for a black gun an ak47. Why, you have half a mind to show him just how quick your 17hmr with your way to overpriced high powered scope can take him out at 300 yards.

The point is whether you will admit it or not, YOU ARE BIASED. So am I, but DAMMIT AT LEAST I'M NOT IN DENIAL!

Also let’s never forget, nobody is a true gun fan unless they own at least one gun they hate to death. They never shoot it, they never carry it, and it just sits there. Think about that for a minute and tell me it’s not all in your head!
We are all BIASED! So don’t write us with little pussy comments like “Your opinion is not objective”. I can promise you right now it won’t be.
